The timing belt idler pulley guides and maintains correct belt alignment through the timing system. On the UZ-series V8, there are multiple idlers — this is Idler No.2. A worn or seized idler causes belt misalignment, noise, and accelerated belt wear, and can lead to catastrophic timing failure. Always replace all idlers and the tensioner together whenever the timing belt is serviced.

Replacement Interval

Replace at every timing belt service — every 100,000 km or as recommended. Never reuse idler pulleys with a new belt.
