The timing belt idler sub-assembly guides the timing belt through the valve train system. On the UZ-series V8, there are multiple idlers — this is Idler No.1. A worn or seized idler causes belt misalignment, noise, and accelerated belt wear, and can lead to catastrophic timing failure and bent valves. Always replace all idlers and the tensioner together whenever the timing belt is serviced.

Replacement Interval

Replace at every timing belt service — every 100,000 km or as recommended. Never reuse idler pulleys with a new belt.
